Consumers have been enrolling in credit card debt elimination plans for decades, yet credit card debt continues to increase. Many consumers blame themselves when these plans fail but maybe the blame belongs with the plan, not the person.
The reason these plans have not been effective in eliminating credit card debt is simple. They have overlooked a biblical secret that is essential to the success of any debt elimination plan.
Before I share this simple biblical secret, there are a few things you must understand about credit card debt.
Credit cards are easy to love.
One of the real advantages of credit cards is their convenience. They are accepted just about everywhere. They eliminate the need to carry cash. They also allow us to immediately enjoy things we could not afford otherwise, and they make the need for building an emergency savings fund virtually obsolete.
With all of these benefits, is it any wonder we have developed a love affair with our credit cards?
Unfortunately, credit card debt has a negative side that we often fail to see, at least until it's too late. It is this blind love for credit cards, and their convenience, that causes us to take on record amounts of credit card debt.
When our debts become burdensome, it is our failure to see the negative side of debt that causes us to look for relief, rather than true solutions. Because of our love for debt we look for ways to manage the debt rather than divorce ourselves from it.
Understanding these simple truths about debt will help us discover the biblical secret to credit card debt elimination.
So what is the biblical secret to credit card debt elimination?
This biblical secret can be found in Matthew 6:24. In this verse Jesus explains that we can not serve two masters. What He is saying is that it is impossible for a person to serve both God and money. This verse says we will hate the one and love the other.
Any attempt on our part to serve both God and money is destined to fail, yet everyday many Christians are trying to do exactly that. In the book of Proverbs, Solomon warns us that the borrower becomes a slave to the lender. In spite of this admonition many Christians are trying to serve money, in the form of debt, and trying to serve God at the same time.
The simple fact of the matter is that if we do not learn to hate debt, we will inevitably fall back into debt, over and over again, and will never be free. This is the secret to credit card debt elimination that virtually all debt elimination plans fail to recognize.
The only way to become truly free from debt, and remain debt free, is to learn to hate debt. Any attempt to maintain a love affair with credit cards will ultimately fail, and the result will be a lifetime of servitude to money in the form of credit card debt.
